Breast Augmentation – Steps to Recovery

Monday, September 19, 2011

Breast surgery, like other plastic surgery procedures, is going to require a recovery period. While other cosmetic surgeries take the patient a long time to recuperate, the recovery from a breast augmentation is quite mild. Outlined below is a week by week account of what you can expect after your operation.

What to Expect – Week One Breast Augmentation Recovery

Tight Skin: Immediately following your breast augmentation surgery, the skin will feel very tight. This is natural because your skin is not used to having to accommodate the volume of the implant.
Swelling & Bruising: Your breasts will be quite firm after the surgery due to the swelling, which will be combatted by a surgical garment. You will also appear up to a cup size larger for the first few weeks. You will also experience a fair degree of bruising as the skin is quite tender, but this will fade in the first two to three weeks.
Pain & Soreness: Your breasts will be sore for the first few days. Most people will be back at work after one week and resume their normal activities, although you will be unable to lift heavy objects.
Stitches/Sutures: Dr Jeremy Hunt uses dissolvable stitches, and the wounds will be covered with a waterproof dressing so you can shower the day after surgery.
Sleep: You will be required to sleep on your back with your head elevated, to help with the swelling, for the first few days after surgery.
Scars: Caused by the surgery but will fade over time. Scar management including silicone therapy is recommended as well as keeping them out of direct sunlight and giving regular massages.

What to expect – Weeks Two to Four Breast Augmentation Recovery

After the first week of the breast augmentation recovery, your life will be returning back to normal. Over time, the skin will stretch and loosen, allowing the breasts to be more mobile. There will less pain, bruising and tenderness, with about 50% of the swelling will have settled but you will still have to wait before you go bra shopping.
The swelling usually settles over 6 weeks and you can be back to jogging, push ups, chin ups and contact sport at 6 weeks.
Nipple sensation will likely be altered after surgery, and can range from a decrease to hypersensitivity to numbness, which is all perfectly natural, until your normal sensations return. Permanent loss of nipple sensation is an extremely rare side effect.

The Final Result – Breast Augmentation Recovery

By three to six months after surgery, you will have recovered from all aspects of the procedure, and your scars, swelling and bruising should be minimal. Now will be the time to embrace your breasts and truly enjoy your fresh confidence in yourself. This road to recovery is a small price to pay for your new body.

Benefits of Before & After Photos

Monday, August 15, 2011

Before and After photos is a vital part of cosmetic surgery as it is a tangible record of your experience. Before photos allow the surgeon and patient to plan any procedure before implementing it, and to provide a record of what was before the surgery. After photos allow the surgeon and the patient to address the problems and reflect on the quality of the final result. When Before and After photos are compared alongside each other, they can educate patients on the success of the surgery and provide the final medical record for the procedure.

Please peruse the multiple galleries of Before and After photos from real people on Dr Jeremy Hunt’s website to discover what is possible through surgery for breast implants, facelifts, tummy tucks, nose surgery, liposuction and many more.

Benefits of Breast Surgery

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Breast Augmentation can have a positive benefit on your life

It is common to simply associate breast surgery with just enlargements and enhancements, and whilst this is a common facet of the field, it is not the sole purpose. Getting a ‘boob job’ doesn’t simply equate to receiving larger breasts – but can involve surgeries that have a range of medical and personal benefits, ultimately improving self confidence and way of life.

Breast surgery is commonly utilised to make breasts symmetric. Having breasts that are not the same size can be a natural occurrence through puberty, or can come about through surgical procedures on the breast area. Breast asymmetry can have a negative effect on ones confidence and personal views of appearance.

Breast surgery also involves breast reductions. Having a ‘boob job’ is so commonly associated with getting larger breasts in the modern age, that we forget that some women are born with breasts that are out of proportion to the rest of their body. This can lead to back pain and related stress on other body parts, making breast reduction surgery a beneficial outlet to ease pain and discomfort.

The above examples are just two of the many beneficial procedures in the breast surgery field, something which you can learn more about by contacting Dr. Jeremy Hunt via his website, www.drjeremyhunt.com.au, or by calling (02) 9327 1733.
