What to Expect – Week One Breast Augmentation Recovery

Tight Skin: Immediately following your breast augmentation surgery, the skin will feel very tight. This is natural because your skin is not used to having to accommodate the volume of the implant.
Swelling & Bruising: Your breasts will be quite firm after the surgery due to the swelling, which will be combatted by a surgical garment. You will also appear up to a cup size larger for the first few weeks. You will also experience a fair degree of bruising as the skin is quite tender, but this will fade in the first two to three weeks.
Pain & Soreness: Your breasts will be sore for the first few days. Most people will be back at work after one week and resume their normal activities, although you will be unable to lift heavy objects.
Stitches/Sutures: Dr Jeremy Hunt uses dissolvable stitches, and the wounds will be covered with a waterproof dressing so you can shower the day after surgery.
Sleep: You will be required to sleep on your back with your head elevated, to help with the swelling, for the first few days after surgery.
Scars: Caused by the surgery but will fade over time. Scar management including silicone therapy is recommended as well as keeping them out of direct sunlight and giving regular massages.

What to expect – Weeks Two to Four Breast Augmentation Recovery

After the first week of the breast augmentation recovery, your life will be returning back to normal. Over time, the skin will stretch and loosen, allowing the breasts to be more mobile. There will less pain, bruising and tenderness, with about 50% of the swelling will have settled but you will still have to wait before you go bra shopping.
The swelling usually settles over 6 weeks and you can be back to jogging, push ups, chin ups and contact sport at 6 weeks.
Nipple sensation will likely be altered after surgery, and can range from a decrease to hypersensitivity to numbness, which is all perfectly natural, until your normal sensations return. Permanent loss of nipple sensation is an extremely rare side effect.
